Lt-Govenor-PhotoThe Nova Scotia Federation of Home and School Associations is proud to confirm that the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia , the Honourable John James Grant CMM, ONS, CD (Ret'd), has confirmed his attendance to be part of our Annual Conference and will be brining greetings on behalf of Nova Scotia. We are very proud to have the Lieutenant Governor be part of our event and knowing he is a strong supporter of education in Nova Scotia demonstrates that he as our Queen's representative also sees the importance to improve education everywhere.

John James Grant was installed as the 32nd Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia on April 12, 2012.

Born in New Glasgow, His Honour holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Mount Allison University and is also a Registered Industrial Accountant.

In addition to an active business life as co-owner of J.J. Grant Ltd Castle Building Centre, His Honour was a long serving member of Her Majesty's Canadian Forces. Rising to the rank of Brigadier-General, His Honour served in his final position as Commander of Atlantic Militia Area.

In 1979, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Military Merit and was subsequently promoted to Commander of the Order. Following his retirement from the Canadian Forces he went on to serve as Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of both the 1st Battalion, The Nova Scotia Highlanders (North) and the 2nd Battalion, The Nova Scotia Highlanders (Cape Breton).

His Honour is married to Her Honour, Mrs. Joan Grant. They have four adult children, one of whom is deceased, and five grandchildren.

The Federation is also pleased to announce that the Minister of Education the Honourable Karen Casey will also be presenting at our conference. It is without a doubt a monumental year for the Federation to have two very distinguished guests join us to promote the importance of Education in Nova Scotia. You will also have the opportunity for a short question and answer period with the Minister after her presentation.
